Oxford Heated Grips

First mod, moving my Oxford heated grips from my old bike onto this. I ride it pretty much in any weather and even though I have some decent waterproof winter gloves my hands can still get chilly. These are the old style grips with a dial on the controller to set the heat level. They make your hands warmer than the newer style as they have current running through them constantly instead of just pulsing. This also draws more power of course!

Originally, I just used the connectors provided with the grips to connect them straight into the battery. The problem with this is that the grips are very easy to turn on accidentally and I managed to run down (and ruin) my battery by turning them on accidentally and them being left on all day. I then wired these directly into the fuse box so that they only work when the ignition is on. I used a multimeter to find a connection that was only powered when the ignition was turned on and then used a new spade connector to join the heated grips positive connection to the existing cable and plug them both into the same socket.

A better way to wire it up would have been to use an automotive relay connected directly to the battery and then use the live wire from the ignition circuit to turn the circuit on as shown below:-
