Yamaha FZ6 VS Suzuki GSX650F
I wanted something:-
- smoother at higher speeds
- with a bit more torque
- as fuel efficient as possible
- has an upright seating position that won't totally ruin my back
- witha full fairing
- not too high to actually get on
- new technology
My options were pretty limited. I eliminated the Kawasaki ER6f and the SV650S (or Sport) as I wanted an inline-4 instead of another twin for the extra smoothness and torque. That left pretty much only two options left - the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer with optional Yamah lower fairing and the new Suzuki GSX650F. They are both great bikes but the FZ6 won on several points:-
- The FZ6 has nicer headlights
- The FZ6 has underseat exhausts (which I like the look of)
- The wide rear wheel on the FZ6 looks great
- The FZ6 has more power
- Yamaha offer 0% finance on the FZ6 and I am bad at saving money
- You can get ABS as an option on the FZ6
- The FZ6 has a rear hugger already fitted (which would save me the cost of buying one for the GSX650F)
- The FZ6 comes in plain black (which looks great) and the GSX650F in silver and black doesn't look as nice
- The GSX650F has an ugly gigantic exhaust on one side (I like symmetry)
- The GSX650F had a taller seat height
- The GSX650F weighs more than the FZ6
There are a couple of points where the FZ6 didn't beat the GSX650F. After test-riding it, I realised the Suzuki GSX650F has a really smooth engine that has great power across the rev-range and less vibration than the FZ6. The look of the bodywork, plastics and engine on both of the bikes (ignoring the paint jobs) look really sexy. In hindsight, I think that I prefer the look of the three-spoke wheels but it wasn't something I really noticed when comparing the bikes.
Conclusion: The Yamaha FZ6 Fazer is the winner!!!
